[livejournal.com profile] stakebait asked for something to try out a new crockpot.
I don't cook a lot in my crockpot mostly because I'm really not a morning person so thinking about dinner 8hrs before I have to serve it hurts my head. LOL. But this is one thing I do really enjoy. It's a simple 'Roast Chicken' type of thing, nothing fancy. It can be made in the oven as well.

Crockpot Chicken
Feel free to fiddle with the ingredient and spices.

1 whole chicken (hollow and rinsed)
2 onions (quartered)
carrots (I like mini carrots because they remain firm even with long cooking)
potatoes (peeled and quartered)
paprika, thyme, rosemary, parsley, salt
chicken soup base or oxo cube

Place some onions at bottom of crockpot. Place chicken on top. Stuff chicken with remainder of onions, a large bunch of fresh parsley and a twig of rosemary (This stuffing keeps the breast meat moist). Sprinkle salt, thyme and paprika on top of chicken.

Add carrots and potatoes around the chicken. Dissolve chicken soup base or oxo cube into one cup of water and pour over veggies.

set for 8hr on low or 6hrs on high (depending on how pot settings)

Enjoy! :D

I'll feedle with the ingredients. :)

You know I always thought a crockpot was the same as a Romertopf, but it turns out they are quite different things.

*snicker*

*envisions large slab of tofu stuffed with onions cooking away for 8hrs.*

Only one recipe left and no fiddling will be required. ;)

Ah! a clay pot. yes, they are lovely. and yes, very much not a crockpot although I can see why you would think so from the name.

crockpots are very popular with working folks as you can start it in the morning and come home and your dinner is ready. :D (ie: safe to leave on in your house without you there) and it's nice in the summer because it doens't generate a lot of heat.

feedle ... *headdesk* I should stop writing in English. Obviously I can't do it at the end of a looong editing day.

I don't think crockpots are very popular in Germany. In the USA and Canada (I think), women started working earlier than in Germany and thus would use such cooking devices. The generation of my mom and even beyond very much were family makers.
